I don’t need a retreat
There’s a thought I hear all the time — sometimes said out loud, sometimes hidden behind a smile:
“I’d love to join… but I’m not ready yet.”
Not ready enough.
Not calm enough.
Not flexible enough.
Not “well” enough.
Not sure enough.
So we postpone it for “when life becomes quieter”.
For when we feel better.
For when we become a slightly improved version of ourselves.
But the truth is — and I say this with so much love —
no one ever arrives at a retreat ready.
They arrive tired.
Curious.
A little anxious.
Open and closed at the same time.
And that is perfect.
A retreat is not a reward for having everything together.
It’s not a place for the people who wake up at 6am to meditate every day.
It’s not for the ones who already know how to breathe deeply, eat slowly, and switch off their phones.
It’s for the ones who:
feel they need a pause
but don’t know how to take it
feel something is missing
but can’t name what
want to reconnect
but don’t know where to start
It’s for real life humans.
I’ve seen it so many times.
Someone arrives a bit guarded, scanning the space, wondering:
Will I fit in?
Did I make the right decision?
What if this is not for me?
And then — slowly — something softens.
Not because we “fixed” anything.
Not because they suddenly became a different person.
But because:
they exhaled
they put their phone down
they had one real conversation
they sat by the sea without needing to be productive
And their body remembered something their mind had forgotten:
it’s safe to slow down.
You don’t have to be spiritual.
You don’t have to be experienced.
You don’t have to be going through a crisis.
You don’t have to be at your best.
You can arrive exactly as you are:
tired
busy
in transition
curious
emotional
numb
excited
uncertain
All versions are welcome.
What I’ve learned from hosting these spaces is this:
People don’t come because they are ready.
People come because something inside them whispers:
“this might be good for me.”
That’s all.
Not clarity.
Not confidence.
Just a small inner yes.
And that is always enough.
A retreat doesn’t ask you to perform.
You don’t have to talk if you don’t feel like it.
You don’t have to share your story.
You don’t have to join every session.
You don’t have to be “on”.
You can:
rest
walk
observe
journal
sit in the sun
go to bed early
This is not a test.
This is a space.
And maybe the most important part:
You don’t come to a retreat because you’re ready.
You come to a retreat to create the space where readiness can find you.
So if you’re waiting for the perfect moment,
for the calm period, the clear mind, the better version of you..
this is your gentle reminder:
You don’t need to be ready.
You only need to feel the call.
And trust it.
